How to Use ORT On-Demand Bus Fare Payment System

Welcome to our (ODT) on-demand transportation system! We are excited to offer a flexible and convenient way to travel around our community using our "ORT On-Demand" app. Use the link below to download via Apple App Store or Google Play store. Whether you're commuting to work, running errands, or exploring the city, our on-demand bus service provides a seamless experience tailored to your schedule. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started with our fare payment system.

Tips for a Smooth Experience

  • Plan Ahead: Book your ride a few minutes before you need to leave to ensure timely pickup.

  • Stay Updated: Enable notifications in the Via app to receive real-time updates about your ride.

  • Be Ready: Arrive at your pickup location a few minutes before your scheduled pickup time to avoid delays.

  • Contact Support: If you encounter any issues, Via’s customer support is available through the app to assist you.

  • Are you riding with a group, friends, or family? Please use one account to book a ride for everyone. Note: That account will bare the charges for everyone one. Example: Jessica is riding with two friends. The total riders 3 x $1.25 fare per rider = Jessica's account will be charge either: 3 e-rides, or $3.75 via the card on file, or if every rider has a bus pass or if Jessica has a bus pass with available rides she may use that to pay for herself and her friends.

Step 1: Download the Via App

To begin, download the Via app from the App Store or Google Play. The app is free to download and easy to set up. Simply search for "Via" and install the app on your smartphone.

Step 2: Create an Account

Once the app is installed, open it and create a new account. You'll need to provide some basic information, including your name, email address, and phone number. You'll also create a password for your account. Make sure to verify your email address by clicking on the link sent to your inbox.

Step 3: Set Up Payment Method

Next, you'll need to set up your payment method. Via accepts various forms of payment, including credit/debit cards and digital wallets. To add a payment method, go to the "Payment" section in the app's menu and follow the prompts to enter your payment details securely.

Step 4: Purchase a Bus Pass

For frequent travelers, purchasing a bus pass is a cost-effective option. We offer bus passes online, which you can purchase directly through our website or the Via app. Here are the available options:

  • Standard Bus Pass: $12.50 for 10 trips.

  • Senior Citizen/Disability Discount: $6.00 for 10 trips (a 52% discount).

  • E-passes are available to purchase via our website. Limit 1 per account.

  • Physical passes are available in-office or online.

To qualify for the senior citizen or disability discount, you'll need to provide proof of eligibility during the purchase process.

Step 5: Select "Bus Pass" as Your Payment Method

After purchasing your bus pass, you'll need to link it to your Via account. In the Via app, go to the "Payment" section and select "Bus Pass" as your form of payment. Enter the pass details as prompted. Once linked, your trips will automatically deduct from your bus pass balance.

Step 6: Book Your Ride

With your account, payment method, and bus pass set up, you're ready to book your ride. Here's how:

  1. Open the “ORT On-Demand”: Launch the app and enter your destination in the "Where to?" field.

  1. Select Your Pickup Location: The app will automatically detect your current location, but you can adjust it if needed. Confirm your pickup location.

  1. Choose Your Ride: Review the available ride options and select the one that best fits your needs. You'll see the estimated fare and arrival time for each option.

  1. Book Your Ride: Once you've selected your ride, tap "Book This Ride." You'll receive confirmation with your driver's details and estimated arrival time.

  1. Board the Bus!

  1. When your bus arrives, simply show the driver your booking confirmation in the Via app. This confirmation will include your name, pickup location, and destination. The driver will verify your booking and help you board the bus.

Step 8: Pay Your Fare:

If you’ve selected the bus pass as your payment method, your trip will be deducted from your bus pass balance or if you have a physical pass. Our driver will stamp a used ride. Otherwise, your fare will be automatically charged to the payment method you set up in the app once your ride is complete. There’s no need to handle cash or worry about exact change. You can review your trip details and payment history in the "Ride History" section of the app.

Please note: Drivers do not have the ability to accept any form of fare payments.

Step 9: Rate Your Ride

After your trip, you’ll have the opportunity to rate your experience and provide feedback. This helps us maintain a high standard of service and continually improve our on-demand bus system.
